UK government scraps controversial ‘call in’ powers

The UK government has scrapped plans to include the controversial ‘call-in’ power in the Financial Services and Markets bill.

The much-debated power would have enabled ministers to intervene in regulatory policy.

Following the intense backlash, former Chancellor of the Exchequer Nadhim Zahawi announced that plans to introduce the intervention power would be delayed.
