Global insured cat losses drop to $95bn in 2023

Insured losses from natural disasters tallied at $95bn in 2023, down 24% year on year, according to Munich Re.

The figure is slightly below the average amount of $105bn, the carrier said, as 2023 saw no mega-disasters in industrialised countries to drive losses up as was the case with Hurricane Ian in 2022.
