The specialty marine hull and machinery market could gradually soften in 2024 as underwriters looking to grow their portfolios set their sights on the most attractive fleets in terms of tonnage type and performance, according to Gallagher.

In its most recent marine hull and machinery update, Gallagher said higher-than-normal war premiums in some cases may "help to paper over the cracks, as claims inflation pushes overall hull loss ratios back in the wrong direction”.
