Fires in electric vehicles (EVs) are no more dangerous than those in conventional vehicles and occur less frequently when the vehicles are driven over the same distance, according to a report from the International Union of Marine Insurance (Iumi).

Iumi said there were “several misconceptions” about EVs, which were leading to uncertainty.

“Fires in battery electric vehicles are not more dangerous than fires in conventional vehicles and are currently not more frequent,” the report said.
