Cyber attackers to favour data theft over extortion: CyberCube

Demands arising from encryption or extortion attacks, including ransomware, could go through a "lull" as cyber threat actors are now expected to return to the more traditional data theft and resale, according to CyberCube's H2 2023 Global Threat Briefing.

William Altman, cyber threat intelligence principal at CyberCube, said ransomware attacks, despite increasing in frequency, are becoming less effective or financially viable for threat actors, as numerous organisations are now refusing to engage or pay ransoms.
