A WTW report has found that the number of global firms it surveyed which purchased political risk insurance surged to nearly 70% this year from 25% in 2019, as the “extraordinary shock” of the Ukraine war altered business leaders’ perceptions of political risk.

According to the study, the proportion of respondents experiencing a political risk loss soared to 92% this year from 35% in 2020, with 70% of these losses materialising at less than $50mn.
