The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (Floir) has received $9.6bn in estimated claims costs from primary insurers arising from Hurricane Ian.

The organisation reported $3.3bn in early October.

Ian struck Florida’s east coast near Fort Myers as a Category 4 hurricane on 28 September, then weakened to a Category 1 storm and travelled slowly across the state, bringing heavy precipitation.
