FCA ramps up warnings over dangers around ‘call-in’ powers

The CEO and chairman at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) have doubled down on their warnings that a proposed call-in power, which would enable ministers to intervene in regulatory policy, will “undermine the UK’s competitiveness” as a financial centre.

The government is due to introduce the controversial intervention tool into legislation soon via an amendment to the Financial Services and Markets Bill, which is passing through various stages in Parliament before it’s ratified as law.
