Early January reinsurance renewals including for US mutual Farmers have highlighted how reinsurers are pushing hard to shift terms and conditions as the property cat market hardens, sources said.

On top of significant rate increases, the changes to the mutual’s traditional early-placed deals are set to include a shift away from multi-year contracts and premium payment terms that will require any increase in exposure to be paid for.
