The macroeconomic environment will test the robustness of rated carriers in the EMEA region in the coming months and could lead to significant capital surplus erosion, according to S&P.

The ratings agency said insurers had so far proved to be resilient in the face of global geopolitical turmoil which has impacted GDP, consumer price indices and long-term rates in European countries.
