SMBC books $1.6bn loss for planes stranded in Russia

Aircraft lessor SMBC Aviation Capital has announced a write-off of the full value of 34 planes stranded in Russia, worth $1.6bn, according to its full-year financial report published today.

The lessor noted that the planes were no longer operating under SMBC’s control, despite the termination of the aircraft’s leases.
