The ramifications of the war in Ukraine could result in marine insurance claims beyond immediate war losses in the Black Sea, with the conflict adding to pressures over crew, fuel and port congestion globally, according to a report from Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS).

The insurer said that the conflict was exacerbating existing supply chain challenges that emerged during the pandemic, contributing to congestion in ports and adding to shortages of qualified crew, all of which heightened the risk of accident.
