Generali has received authorization from the European Commission (EC) for its acquisition of a controlling interest in Società Cattolica di Assicurazione, a move that will cement its position in the Italian insurance market.

Generali made a EUR1.2bn ($1.4bn) offer for the shares of Cattolica that it does not already own in June in a bid to accelerate its move towards P&C business, a goal identified in its 2021 strategic plan.
