Belgian carriers make EUR305mn ex-gratia flood payments after government negotiations

Belgian insurers have agreed to pay out an additional EUR305mn ($353mn) above and beyond their contractual obligations to victims of the summer flooding in the region.

Severe floods caused by low-pressure area Bernd in July struck Germany, Belgium, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, causing an insured loss of $12bn according to Swiss Re’s latest estimate.
