A powerful earthquake has struck near the Mexican beach resort of Acapulco, causing damage to buildings and sending tremors as far as Mexico City, 230 miles away.

The magnitude 7.0 quake struck in the south west of the country, causing residents and hotel guests to rush out into the streets, and inflicting damage to buildings and power infrastructure.
