Elsa to hit Florida’s west coast after return to tropical storm status

Tropical Storm Elsa is poised to make landfall on Florida’s northwest coast after it was upgraded to a category one hurricane by the National Hurricane Centre (NHC) last night before being downgraded back to a Tropical Storm.

The NHC issued a public advisory at 8pm (EDT) on Tuesday declaring the storm had regained hurricane status after maximum sustained winds hit 75mph when it was travelling offshore near Tampa Florida.
