Chubb has reiterated its disappointment about a series of takeover offers that were spurned by The Hartford, after fresh disclosure from the Connecticut company today revealed the Evan Greenberg-led insurer was willing to pay $25bn to buy the business.

“We have believed that a consolidation of our two organisations, on terms that recognised The Hartford's fair value, would be financially and strategically compelling for both sets of shareholders,” Chubb said.
