Global Energy & Power Review 2011

p24_spitzer-ragout

Welcome to the 2011 Global Energy and Power Review. Looking back at last year's

inaugural publication, many things have changed in the power and energy sector and the world at large, as you might expect. And perhaps just as predictably, many of the challenges that face the sector remain.

As a newcomer to The Insurance Insider team, what struck me about the events this year compared with 2010 is not so much their difference in nature but their difference in scale.

Deepwater Horizon is fast becoming as well-worn a phrase as "9/11" yet, like the terrorist attacks of 2001, the effects continue to be felt. As the scale of potential liability costs arising from the oil spill keep climbing, the predictions of total insured losses grow alongside them.
