McGill joins Aon

Steve McGill, the former chief executive of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group plc, has left his short consultancy role at Benfield Group to join Aon Corp.

The 47-year old has become the head of a new unit addressing the needs of Aon’s Global clients.

Aon’s new president Greg Case welcomed McGill’s arrival as the chief executive of the Global Large Corporate unit, saying: “As a leading insurance broker, Steve McGill has built a formidable reputation as someone who delivers distinctive value to large corporations. We are delighted to have him join the senior team to help drive this business forward.

Earlier this week, Benfield chief executive Grahame Chilton told staff that McGill had left the reinsurance firm after arriving to help consult on the broker’s drive into the primary insurance markets.

Dick Verbeek, chairman of the Global Large Corporate business unit, and Dennis Mahoney, chairman, Aon Ltd, said in a joint statement, “Steve’s impressive accomplishments in the insurance industry, especially with major corporations, will add significantly to the value that we deliver to our clients.
