The stocks of brokers and reinsurance companies took significant hits Thursday, with prominent insurance names comprising five of the ten worst S&P performers in early-afternoon trading.

Leading the decline was AJ Gallagher, with its stock price down around 7.5% at mid-afternoon, to roughly $227 per share compared to its prior close of $245.21.
