Zurich will enter the Indian general insurance market as it looks to acquire a 51% majority stake in India’s Kotak Mahindra General Insurance Company for $488mn.

The consideration includes a combination of fresh growth capital and share purchase, with plans for Zurich to acquire a further 19% stake in the bank over time.
