Farag joins the insurer from Swiss Re, where he led a team of underwriters as casualty portfolio leader for Australia and New Zealand.
Beazleigh joins from Allied World, where he was senior vice president and underwriting head for Asia Pacific professional lines division.
Markel has also hired Arné Booysen as senior underwriter, professional indemnity.
Previously, Booysen worked at Allied World as assistant vice president and underwriting manager within the Australia professional lines division, and will report to Beazleigh in his new role.
In September, Markel hired Axa XL’s Rory Morison as the in-country leader for Australia and announced its plans to open three new offices in the country.
Markel stated that its key initial focus for the Australian market will be casualty and financial lines, focusing on providing underwriting solutions to businesses that traditionally purchase insurance in the domestic market.
