Global marine insurance premiums climbed by 8.3% in 2022 to $35.8bn, which, combined with a “benign” claims environment, contributed to falling loss ratios and improved performance, according to the International Union of Marine Insurance (Iumi).

All lines of business monitored by the organisation contributed to the premium uplift, with cargo remaining the largest line of business, accounting for 57% of global premium.
