Reinsurers are expecting to take significant further rate gains in the Florida renewals, even as the pace of change eases back as buyers have put in early work to lock up capacity after seeing the dislocation at 1 January.

However, with ongoing problems in sourcing low-tier reinsurance capacity, and after having paid up for major rate hikes in last year’s renewal, increased reinsurance spending will once again be a major challenge to poorly capitalised domestic carriers.
