Hiscox boosted its contract written premiums by 4.1% to $1.42bn in the first quarter and hailed a “seismic shift” in the reinsurance market.

Rates increased by 41% in the carrier's Re & ILS division during the quarter, with heightened losses, ILS capacity reductions and inflation contributing to the gains.
