An overall supply-demand balance for reinsurance was “delicately poised” at the 1 April renewals, with enough capacity to meet client needs. But the real test for cat capacity will come at the mid-year point, according to Gallagher Re.

In its 1 April First View report, the intermediary noted that for Japanese risk – the largest capacity requirement for the renewal – cedant and reinsurer expectations were better aligned than during the turbulent 1 January negotiations.
