The Australian government has announced that natural disasters in 2022 cost the economy A$5bn ($3.48bn) and worsened the impact of inflation, according to a report.

Reuters reported that treasurer Jim Chalmers, ahead of a tour of flood-hit city Lismore, said: “We need to be careful about how we expose the government's balance sheet to some of these big risks.”
