R&Q and Obra agree $341mn legacy deal with MSA Safety

R&Q Insurance Holdings and Obra Capital (formerly Vida) have formed a joint venture through which they have acquired a liability subsidiary of safety equipment manufacturer MSA Safety.

The acquired company holds product liability claims relating to coal dust, asbestos, silica and other exposures.

MSA Safety contributed around $341mn in cash to the subsidiary as well as related insurance assets, while the joint venture contributed $35mn.
