Hiscox cargo underwriter Andrew Corton is leaving the company to take up a cargo underwriting role in the London marine team at Starr, Insurance Insider can reveal.
Corton joined Hiscox at the end of 2020 to manage the renewal season following the departure of several underwriters to Tokio Marine HCC.
He has spent almost four decades in the market, and is a long-serving member of the Lloyd’s Market Association Joint Cargo Committee, which he currently chairs.
The underwriter has also worked as head of cargo at K2 International and Pioneer Underwriters.
Starr has expanded its involvement in marine classes in recent years while pricing has been improving in the segment.
John O’Brien heads up the marine team in London, having joined the business from Marsh in 2021 to lead an expansion in the class in London.
Conditions in the cargo market have improved substantially since the class of business was involved in the Decile 10 process at Lloyd’s.
Hiscox and Starr were contacted for comment.
