Mapfre Re is to increase its capital by EUR250mn ($263mn) as it looks to meet rising demand and take advantage of rising rates.

The carrier said it will fund the capital increase from surpluses resulting from its recent exits from bancassurance agreements, shifting funding to the area “with the greatest potential” to increase profitability.
