Compre to acquire Irish Covéa subsidiary Medical Insurance Company

Legacy carrier Compre has agreed to buy Covéa’s Irish medical malpractice (medmal) subsidiary Medical Insurance Company (MIC), which entered run-off in 2015.

The move comes after Compre entered European medmal with the acquisition of German insurer Basler in August.

Compre raised around $200mn in subordinated Tier 2 debt over the summer as it looked to fund more growth.
