Florida Citizens prepares for $3.8bn in Hurricane Ian claims

Florida Citizens expects it could face around $3.8bn in losses and 225,000 claims from Hurricane Ian, according to CEO Barry Gilway.

The insurer-of-last-resort has grown dramatically in the last year, recently topping 1 million policies, placing Citizens’ market share at roughly 13% in the state as of August 31.
