Ian forecast to hit Florida west coast as ‘dangerous major hurricane’: NHC

Ian is now forecast to strike the west coast of Florida as a “dangerous major” hurricane, with storm surge warnings in nine coastal areas and a predicted 12 to 16 in of rain in some regions of the state.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in its 8am EDT update that Ian is currently around 10 miles north-northeast of Cuba’s Pinar del Rio and moving north at 12 mph.
