A landfall at Category 3 or 4 along the west coast of Florida later this week would be one of the more damaging possible scenarios for Hurricane Ian, with a number of storms which have impacted the state in recent history providing useful points of comparison.

In its update today at 11:00 EDT (16:00 BST), the National Hurricane Center reported that Ian was moving through the Caribbean Sea around 100 miles to the west of Grand Cayman.
