Competition in the offshore energy market is “fierce” as carriers vie to secure business in a “highly overcapitalised” environment, according to Frank Streidl, chair of the offshore energy committee of the International Union of Marine Insurance (Iumi).

Streidl, who is head of energy, marine and construction at Zurich, said there was “more capacity than the industry actually needs”, which has resulted in an erosion of global premium income.
