Munich Re warns of 1.1 capacity shortage as inflation and losses hit

Inflation, rising interest rates and the recent run of losses will have a “huge” impact on the supply of reinsurance capacity at the January renewals, Munich Re has warned.

In an announcement accompanying its press conference at the Monte Carlo Rendez-Vous today, the company said reinsurance capital is projected to be lower in 2023 than this year – the first instance of a capacity drop since 2018.
