The southwestern Gironde region of France has been struck by a sting of wildfires, as the country continues to suffer from a prolonged period of heatwaves and drought.

The region, famous for its fine wines, has been afflicted by fires since July, and local authorities estimate that around 6,800 hectares have been burnt.
