Competitiveness should not become a principal objective of financial regulators, although there are real opportunities to improve it through regulatory reform, according to a new UK Treasury Committee report on the future of financial services regulation.

In yesterday’s report, the committee also warned against the “danger of the lessons of the financial crisis being forgotten as memories of the crash fade”.
