A panicky Florida reinsurance renewal season is drawing to a close that has so far felled fewer insurers than was previously feared, but has exposed a gulf in risk appetite which cannot easily be bridged.

So far only Southern Fidelity has been an immediate casualty of the renewal, as its Demotech rating was withdrawn when it had not placed its programme by 2 June.
