An already stressed Florida renewal was exacerbated by the need to reprice reinsurance treaties to take account of new state-funded cover this week, but more capacity has started opening up in a season that will drive a reshaping of the underlying market.

One cedant said the situation was now “not nearly as dire as over the [past] weekend,” and that while many programmes were still not fully complete, “you can see the path [to completion].”
