Billionaire Caltagirone exits Generali board after failed leadership coup

Italian billionaire Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone has resigned from the board of Generali, less than a month after leading a failed bid to oust CEO Philippe Donnet.

He leaves the board with immediate effect, retaining his 9.95% shareholding in the Italian insurer.

Generali said in a brief statement that the board of directors will be called in the coming days for any subsequent decision regarding his replacement.
