Nearly half of Bermudian carriers cutting exposures to improve ESG position

About 45% of Bermuda-based insurers are reducing their exposure to certain lines of business, such as thermal coal, to enhance their ESG position, according to a report by the Bermuda Business Development Agency (BDA) and Oxbow Partners.

The report found that 32% of Bermudian carriers have integrated ESG into underwriting. In most cases, this is a simple exclusion to risk appetite, as respondents expressed reticence about using hard exclusions.
