Swiss Re dips to $248mn Q1 loss on Ukraine, nat-cat losses

Swiss Re fell to a $248mn loss for Q1 2022 as its underwriting and investment results saw a downturn on the back of Ukraine losses of $283mn and market volatility, higher than expected nat-cat losses and ongoing Covid claims.

The reinsurer’s return on equity fell to a negative 4.6%, versus a 5.2% gain a year earlier, falling below expectations for a 0.9%
