Convex rules out new thermal coal after ‘inaccurate’ activist claims

Convex has ruled out insuring the construction and operation of any new thermal coal mines and their dedicated infrastructure, following what it called “inaccurate and misleading” claims about its involvement in an Australian coal mine.

The Stephen Catlin-led business has become the latest carrier to publicly distance itself from the fossil fuel, as insurers look to play a part in the transition to clean energy and net-zero emissions.
