Natural catastrophes in the US accounted for a “very high share” of the $120bn of insured losses from natural disasters in 2021, according to Munich Re.

The year saw a substantial increase in the scale of natural disaster losses compared with 2019 and 2020, where insured losses were $82bn and $57bn, respectively.
