The number of protests and riots in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) has jumped by 45% in the last year, largely driven by the economic and social stresses caused by the pandemic, according to Chaucer analysis.

Chaucer highlighted the collapse in oil and gas prices during global lockdowns as a factor that had contributed to the increase in unrest across several economies in the region.
