A fierce storm raged across the central US late on Friday, unleashing tornadoes in six states and causing at least 70 fatalities and widespread damage across Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois and Mississippi.

President Joe Biden said on Saturday he had approved an emergency declaration for Kentucky, allowing federal resources into the state.
