When US flood and homeowners’ InsurTech TypTap secured an $850mn valuation through a private equity stake sale in March, the deal crystallised its sky-high value to HCI, its parent company.

The valuation was higher than its owner’s market capitalisation at the time, and it triggered a process that has propelled HCI’s share price since the spring.
