Inver Re hires ex-Hiscox director Sharpe
Ardonagh’s reinsurance venture Inver Re has hired former Hiscox Bermuda director of underwriting Chris Sharpe as strategy, innovation and business development director.
Sharpe will report to reinsurance and capital CEO Steve Hearn.
The executive spent eight years as an underwriter with Hiscox in London, before setting up the carrier’s Bermuda business and then Hiscox Re, which brought together the carrier’s reinsurance operations across London and Bermuda.
Later, Sharpe became a non-executive director of Geovera Reinsurance.
Ardonagh launched Inver Re after it closed its $500mn acquisition of Corant Global during the summer, which created the largest independent specialty and wholesale broking business in London.
Other recent hires to the business include former Howden executive Nick Griffiths as a director focusing on ILS and alternative capital, and former Miller head of property Neil Higgins as head of facultative business.
Hearn said: “Inver Re feels very much like a start-up, and no one knows start-ups better than Chris.
“It’s his vision, unique experience, digital first mindset and technical understanding of the reinsurance landscape that make him an invaluable asset to Inver Re’s proposition as we continue to grow.
“His relationships across global reinsurance markets will help us generate opportunities, and his entrepreneurial imagination will help us create different, dynamic reinsurance solutions.”
Sharpe said: “Sitting within Ardonagh's $13bn portfolio, we have a compelling opportunity to craft Inver Re within today's dynamic reinsurance market and unsettled broker landscape.”
