Willis lures back aviation broker Fisher after spell at McGill

Aviation broker Ian Fisher has resigned from McGill and Partners and is due to re-join Willis Towers Watson next year, Insurance Insider can reveal.

Fisher joined start-up McGill in 2019 following a spell of more than 17 years at Willis as the broker built out it roster of talent.

McGill’s aerospace operation is headed up by former JLT executive Joe Trotti and has been pushing to build a book of business in challenging conditions, with other rival start-ups such as Piiq also vying to secure clients, and the client base highly challenged by economic conditions brought about by Covid-19.

Willis recently won a string of new airline clients from Marsh, amid an elevated churn of accounts in the airline space, reflecting a distressed client base.

The broker secured the accounts for aviation coverage for Malaysia Airlines, Air Arabia and the Tunisair group.

CEO of global aerospace John Rooley said: “We are delighted to have top talent such as Ian Fisher rejoin the aviation team, which continues to grow from strength to strength.”

McGill and Partners did not respond to a request for comment.
